Decathlon Forclaz MT900 0°C Down Sleeping Bag Review

If you're looking for the best bang-for-your-buck sleeping bag for 3-season bikepacking, stop looking. The Decathlon Forclaz MT900 is it.

The verdict

The best value down sleeping bag on the market. It's a bit heavier than a quilt, but offers foolproof warmth and durability for significantly less cash.

Decathlon has aggressively targeted the ultralight market with the MT900 series, and this bag is a prime example of their engineering prowess. It utilizes 640 CUIN (European standard) duck down, which roughly translates to 700+ US fill power. While it doesn't offer the extreme compressibility of premium 900+ fill goose down found in bags three times the price, it strikes an incredible balance between warmth, packability, and durability. The shell is constructed from a robust 20D polyamide fabric that feels significantly more confidence-inspiring than the whisper-thin 7D or 10D fabrics seen on elite ultralight gear. This makes it an excellent choice for bikepackers who might be rough on their kit, sleeping in bivvies where abrasion is a real concern, or simply want gear that will last for years of abuse without needing babying.

The functionality punches well above its weight class. The fit is what we'd describe as 'athletic', meaning it is snug enough to maximize thermal efficiency by reducing dead air space, but potentially restrictive if you're a toss-and-turn sleeper or have broad shoulders. However, the critical features like the draft collar and anatomical hood are flawlessly executed, effectively sealing in precious body heat when the temperature drops to freezing. Owner reports consistently describe reaching the limit rating with a liner added, and the water-repellent treatment on the down provides a safety margin against the condensation that collects inside a single-wall tent. For the price, nothing else comes close to this performance.

What works

  • Incredible value for money (RDS down)

  • Durable 20D fabric resists abrasion
  • Water-repellent treated down

What doesn't

  • Heavier than premium quilt options (~950g)
  • 640 CUIN loft isn't the most compressible
  • Mummy shape can be restrictive
