The VersaCage ships with clamp mounts, which means it goes onto a fork leg that has no mounting points at all, and that is the problem most riders actually have.
The verdictThe one that fits when nothing else will. Clamps add weight and complication, and they turn an impossible mount into a straightforward one.
Most forks do not have cargo bosses. Riders discover this after buying a cage that assumes them, which is why the VersaCage's clamp system is the feature that matters rather than the cage itself. It mounts to a bare fork leg, a down tube or a seat tube, and it adjusts along the length to clear brake hoses and mudguard mounts.
The adjustability also handles the awkward secondary problem, which is that a cage mounted too low fouls the tyre on a suspension fork and one mounted too high catches your hands. Being able to slide it after fitting rather than committing on the first bolt is worth more than it sounds.
What you pay is weight and fiddle. Clamps are heavier than bolts and take longer to fit, and they need re-torquing after the first few rides as the rubber shims bed in. On a fork that has bosses, a simpler cage is lighter and cheaper.
Carbon forks deserve a caution. Clamping any accessory to a carbon fork leg needs the manufacturer's blessing and a torque wrench, and plenty of carbon forks explicitly prohibit it. This is an aluminium and steel fork solution unless your fork maker says otherwise in writing.
