Blackburn Outpost Cargo Cage Review
The Outpost Cargo Cage carries a large bottle, a dry bag or a sleeping pad on a fork leg. It is the only metal cage of the common three, and it has the longest owner record.
The verdictThe dependable metal cargo cage, with straps in the box and a lifetime warranty. Plan on about 3 kg per side and check your fork's own limit.
The Amazon US listing is the updated black Outpost Cargo Cage, sold by Referb and shipped by Amazon at $29.89 on 7 October 2026 against a $39.95 list price. Blackburn makes it from 6 mm aluminium tubing with two rubberised straps, and it bolts to a three-boss mount in three height positions or, Blackburn says, to two bosses. Retailers list the cage at 126 g plus about 14 g per strap, and Blackburn's table on the listing gives 164 g with the straps.
That table also gives a 4 kg capacity, while retailers quote 3 kg and 5 kg, so plan on the lower figure and check what your fork maker allows on its legs. Owners describe carrying large insulated bottles and growler-sized containers, and riding it for thousands of miles. Blackburn backs it with a lifetime warranty.
There are no clamps in the box, so a fork without bosses needs separate hose clamps, which several owners use. Amazon's review summary counts some negative mentions of the straps and of a secure fit, so check strap tension and add a second strap for heavy loads. A dry bag held only by the supplied straps can slip on rough roads.
Owners on Amazon US gave it 4.6 stars from 1,880 ratings in October 2026, with about 3 percent at one or two stars. For a fork with bosses it is the dependable default, and on washboard the straps rather than the alloy are the part to watch.
