Big Agnes Copper Spur HV UL2 Bikepack Review
The Copper Spur HV UL2 Bikepack is a two-person tent built around one bike problem: poles too long to carry on the bars. Its 12 inch Shortstik poles are the reason to buy it.
The verdictThe two-person tent built around a bike, with poles short enough for a handlebar roll. Expensive, thin-floored and now discontinued, so buy it with a footprint.
Big Agnes gives the Bikepack version 12 inch Shortstik pole sections, so the tent packs to 18 x 34 cm. That is short enough to sit between most drop-bar levers, where a standard tent's poles would not fit. The stuff sack carries daisy-chain webbing so it can strap to the bars, a fork or the frame.
On Big Agnes's archived spec page it weighs 1.33 kg on the trail and 1.59 kg packed, with a 2.7 m² floor, a 102 cm peak, two doors and two vestibules. The fly and floor are silicone-treated nylon ripstop with a 1200 mm PU coating, which is light and thin. Big Agnes sold a matching 255 g footprint separately, and on rough ground it is worth carrying.
Owner reports on Amazon US, at 4.7 stars from 32 ratings in October, are mostly positive, and the low ones are specific. One describes fabric that punctured easily, and another a zip that tore on the third day. Both point at the same trade: the weight is saved in materials that need care.
Big Agnes has replaced this HV model with the newer Copper Spur UL Bikepack, and its HV page no longer loads. On Amazon US in October the HV Bikepack sold through a third-party outdoor retailer at $434.96, not through Amazon itself. Check the seller, and the warranty route through them, before buying.
