Naturehike Star River 2-Person Backpacking Tent Review
The Star River 2 is Naturehike's freestanding two-door tent, the one to look at if you camp on rock, gravel pads or wooden platforms where pegs will not bite.
The verdictA freestanding two-door tent at a budget price. It is heavy for bikepacking, and that is the cost of standing up on rock.
The Amazon US listing describes a double-wall tent with a mesh inner and a 210T polyester fly rated to 3000 mm, standing on two Y-shaped 7001 aluminium poles. It is properly freestanding, so it pitches on a gravel pad or a campsite platform without pegs, though you still stake it out in wind. The inner is 215 x 135 x 110 cm, with two doors and a vestibule on each side.
The weight is the trade. The listing gives about 2.6 kg in total and a packed size of 45 x 15 x 15 cm, which is a seatpack or a fork cage of its own rather than a corner of a bar roll. Naturehike quotes a lower minimum weight of 1.95 kg for the tent body and poles, and rates it as a three-season tent, not a four-season one.
It had 143 owner ratings at 4.5 stars on Amazon US when we checked in October, a smaller record than the Mongar or the Cloud Up. For two riders who want two doors and a tent that stands on hard ground, it is a reasonable buy. A solo rider counting grams should look at a one-person tent instead.
