MOSISO Rack Trunk Bag — Day Trips
The verdict

A stable and exceptionally well-organized trunk bag for daily riding and short micro-adventures.

This 12L trunk bag is built for organization. Unlike cavernous panniers, it features six separate pockets that allow you to sort your tools, snacks, and personal items precisely. The mounting system uses four hook-and-loop straps that provide a very stable connection to the top of most rear racks, completely eliminating the side-to-side sway common with larger bags.

The waterproof polyester material handles light rain well, though the zippers are the limiting factor in a heavy storm. The internal dividers are the detail that earns its keep, stopping small items rattling into a heap in one corner. It's the ideal size for a day's worth of supplies or a quick run to the corner store where you only need a few liters of space.

The reason to choose a trunk bag over panniers at all is heel clearance, and this is the argument for it: 12L on top of the rack rather than either side means nothing to strike on a short-chainstay gravel frame, which is exactly the geometry that makes panniers awkward. At 480g it is also by far the lightest option on this page — a quarter the weight of the Ortlieb pair.

The limit is the closure. Zips under a coated shell are water-resistant, not waterproof, and every genuinely sealed bag on this page uses a roll-top instead. At $35.99 you are also paying roughly three times as much per litre as the 60L Kemimoto pair, so this is not the volume-per-dollar choice — it is the pick for a rider whose actual constraint is heel strike, or who wants organisation rather than one large void.

What works

  • Multiple sorting pockets
  • Rock-solid, sway-free mount
  • Slim profile avoids heel strike

What doesn't

  • Limited 12L capacity
  • Zippers are not fully waterproof
  • Minimal external storage

Buy it if

  • Day Tripping: Perfect size for snacks, tools, and a jacket.
  • Organization: Multiple pockets prevent gear from getting lost.
  • Stability: Top-rack mount eliminates sway and heel strike.

Skip it if

  • You need to carry several days of camping gear.
  • You require 100% submersion waterproofing for the zippers.
