Hycline Waterproof Panniers, Pair (2 x 28L) Review
The Hycline pair is the budget pannier with the best owner record on staying dry and staying on. It is 28 litres per bag, not per pair.
The verdictThe budget pair with the most convincing owner record on rain and mounting. Note the size: 28 litres per bag, 56 for the pair.
The listing gives each bag as 28 litres, or 25 litres rolled, so the pair this link sells holds 56 litres. The fabric is PVC-laminated 500D polyester with a roll-top, and each bag adds a zipped front pocket. The two-bag listing gives 1.7 kg, without saying whether that is per bag or per pair.
It mounts at three points with a quick-release system and a rotating lower buckle, and owners mention rubber inserts for different rack tube sizes. Owners report no heel contact and a tapered bottom. One flags a small, non-standard top buckle and no cinch straps to compress a half-empty bag.
On water the owner record is good. One owner describes dry kit through torrential Oregon rain, and another a crash that left only scuffs. Amazon's review summary also mentions durability problems after about two months for some owners, and a few report latches that slide.
Owners on Amazon US gave the pair 4.4 stars from 111 ratings in October, with 9 percent at one or two stars. Reflective strips run down both sides, with a visibility claim of 30 metres, and dual handles plus a shoulder strap make it easy to carry off the bike. The black interior gets hot in sun, by one owner's account.
