Hycline Waterproof Panniers 28L Review
The Hycline 28L set is a rugged, mid-sized option for riders who need a reliable seal in a manageable size.
The verdictA rugged, mid-sized waterproof set that offers great handles and stable mounting.
Hycline has produced a very capable mid-sized pannier set that focuses on high-quality materials. The 500D polyester with double-sided PVC lamination creates a very stiff and durable bag that stands up on its own. The roll-top closure is tight and effectively keeps out all moisture and road grime.
The quick-release mounting hardware is a step up from basic straps, allowing for fast attachment and removal at camp. The 28L total capacity is the sweet spot for many gravel riders - large enough for a weekend but small enough to keep the bike handling feeling sharp. The inclusion of a shoulder strap and dual handles makes carrying these bags off the bike surprisingly comfortable.
This sits between the two extremes on the page and does so deliberately. At $59.99 it undercuts the 60L Kemimoto pair and costs roughly a third of the Ortlieb, and what the middle price buys is the quick-release hardware — the Kemimoto uses hand-tensioned buckles, the Ortlieb a rail-clamping system, and this lands between them with clips that come off faster than straps and cost less than Quick-Lock.
The construction is the same class as the bags either side: 500D PVC lamination with a roll-top, so it is genuinely waterproof rather than water-resistant, and stiff enough to stand up when loaded. 28L across the pair is the honest constraint — enough for a weekend, not enough for a week — but it also keeps the bike narrower and better handling than a 60L pair will, which for a gravel rider is a feature rather than a limitation.
What works
- Excellent mid-sized capacity
- Very rugged, stiff construction
