DT Swiss 350 Dynamo Front Hub (Shutter 35P) Review
The DT Swiss 350 dynamo hub puts Shutter Precision's generator inside a DT Swiss shell. Paired with a USB converter, it turns riding time into charging time on a long tour.
The verdictA sound dynamo hub for touring bikes with 12 mm thru-axles and Center Lock rotors. Worth the system cost only if your trips are long enough to use it.
The hub combines a DT Swiss 350 shell with Shutter Precision SP PL-7 internals and delivers the standard 6 V / 3 W at 15 km/h. Through a USB converter such as a Sinewave Revolution or a Cinq unit, that is enough to run a GPS and top up a phone at touring pace. Most converters need somewhere between 13 and 18 km/h before they charge at full rate, so steep, slow climbs earn little.
DT Swiss claims under 1 W of drag with the lights off up to 30 km/h, and a little under 7 W with lights on at 30 km/h. Independent rig tests of other dynamo hubs have measured roughly 1.4 to 5 W over a plain hub, so the drag is small but real. At 376 g claimed it is about 245 g heavier than the matching DT Swiss 350 hub without a generator.
The real cost is the system. Between the hub, a wheel build and a USB converter, a rider should budget several hundred dollars, which pays off on long, remote tours and rarely on weekend trips where a power bank does the job. When we checked the Amazon US listing in October it had no featured offer, only third-party sellers from about $240, so check the seller before buying.
