FLEXTAIL Tiny Pump 2X (Sleeping Pad Pump and Lantern) Review
The Tiny Pump 2X inflates sleeping pads, not tyres. On a bike trip its job is filling an air pad at camp without breath going into the baffles, with a small lantern built in.
The verdictA tiny pad pump with a lantern, handy at camp. It cannot inflate a bike tyre, whatever the name suggests.
FLEXTAIL's listing gives the Tiny Pump 2X a maximum of 4 kPa, about 0.58 psi, and states plainly that it is not suitable for tyres. That pressure suits an air sleeping pad, pillow or mattress. For bike tyres FLEXTAIL sells a separate pump, the Tiny Tire Pump, and a hand pump such as the Lezyne Micro Floor Drive does the same job without a battery.
The pump weighs 3.3 oz, or about 93 g, and measures 1.8 x 1.7 x 2.3 inches by the listing. It comes with five nozzles, deflates as well as inflates, and has a camping lantern and a magnetic ring so it can hang from a steel surface. FLEXTAIL quotes about 25 minutes of pumping per charge and asks owners not to run it for more than 15 minutes at a time.
The reason to carry it is the pad. Breath carries moisture into an air pad's baffles, and a pump avoids that while sparing your lungs after a long day. Some pads, such as the Gear Doctors ApolloAir, ship with a pump sack that does the same job for less weight, so check what your pad includes first.
Owners on Amazon US gave it 4.4 stars from 1,088 ratings in October. It runs from a small rechargeable battery, so it joins the list of things to charge on a multi-day trip. Treat the lantern as a tent light, not a replacement for a headlamp.
