Combat Wipes ACTIVE Outdoor Wet Wipes (2-Pack) Review
Thickness is the specification that separates wipes, because a thin one tears and you use three where one should have done.
The verdictA better wipe than the budget packs and priced accordingly. The aloe helps where chafing has already started.
A wipe that tears halfway through is worse than no wipe, because you end up opening a second and carrying both out. These are noticeably thicker than the supermarket alternative, which means one covers what two normally would and the pack lasts closer to its stated count.
Aloe and vitamin E are more than marketing on a bike specifically. Skin that has been in a damp chamois all day is already irritated, and a wipe that soothes rather than strips is a meaningful difference by day three of a tour.
They are biodegradable in the same slow sense as every other wipe, which means packing them out. The two-pack format suits a bikepacking setup better than one large pack, since one lives in the seatpack and one stays home for the next trip.
Where water is plentiful this is still the wrong tool, however good the wipe is. Soap and a cloth is lighter, cheaper and reusable across a whole trip, and wipes only earn their place when carried water is the binding constraint rather than a matter of convenience.
What works
- Thicker than budget wipes, so one does the job
- Aloe helps already-irritated skin
- Two-pack suits trip-by-trip packing
What doesn't
- More expensive than plain wipes
- Still has to be packed out
- Redundant where water is plentiful
