Blackburn Outpost Elite Universal Seat Pack Review
An alloy wing bolted to the saddle rails, not the seatpost, so the bag stays put on a dropper. The trade is a fiddly first install and a smaller bag than the Restrap.
The verdictThe most rigid saddle-rail mount here and the only one built around a dropper. Expect a frustrating first install and check your rails before ordering.
Blackburn's Outpost Elite Universal Seat Pack is a two-part system. A T6061 alloy wing bolts to the saddle rails with a plate inside the harness, and a 10.5 litre welded dry bag with a scuba-style bleed valve straps into it, for a claimed 572 g and a 4.76 kg load limit. Because the wing hangs from the rails rather than the seatpost, it works with a dropper post, which is the main reason to choose it.
The stability reports are consistent. Bikepacking.com's 2019 review found no sway or sag on a bike with a dropper, and Amazon owners describe it as solid as a rack and trouble-free next to a riding partner's soft seatpack. One German owner on a full-suspension bike did report the bag touching the tyre over bumps with the post fully dropped, so measuring your clearance still matters.
The friction is in fitting and in the details. Owners call the instructions vague and the bolts hard to reach, one found the bracket would not clamp flared Selle SMP rails, and Bikepacking.com noted the dry bag has no drain hole and its buckles will not cinch a small load tight. At $85.76 on Amazon in October, about half its launch price, those faults are easier to accept.
