The Wind Hard Twilight is the budget down quilt the ultralight forums keep recommending. It has no zip, no hood and no insulation underneath, which is where the weight goes.
The verdictA lot of 800FP down for the money at 509 g. You trade the hood, the zip and some forgiveness for it.
The Regular puts 350 g of 800FP duck down into a 509 g quilt, and Aegismax rates it 0°C comfort and -5°C limit. There is no zip, no hood and no fill underneath you, because a quilt relies on the sleeping pad for that side. Four elastic straps hold the edges to the pad and an insulated draft tube cinches round the neck, which is the whole system for keeping cold air out.
Those ratings deserve some caution. The EN and ISO tests are written for sleeping bags, so a quilt's figure depends on a sealed edge and a warm pad the test does not describe. Restless sleepers under any quilt get drafts at the shoulders until they learn to tuck the edges. Pair it with a pad of R 3 or more before trusting the number near freezing.
The 10D shell keeps the weight down and needs care around tent stakes and rough bivvy ground. Owner reports on Amazon US are thin, 3.8 stars across 18 ratings when we checked, so there is little long-run evidence either way. Aegismax gives the packed size as 15 x 27 cm, which fits a large bar roll or shares a seatpack with a shelter.
