Titanium does not fatigue the way composite does, and a titanium cage can be bent to adjust its grip rather than replaced when it loosens.
The verdictGenuinely a buy-once item, and priced accordingly. The adjustability is the practical advantage over composite, not the weight.
The real argument for titanium is not weight, it is that the failure mode of a composite cage does not apply. Plastic loses tension and cracks, and there is nothing to be done about either. A titanium cage that grips too loosely or too tightly can be bent by hand until it is right, and it will stay that way.
That adjustability matters more on a bikepacking setup than on a road bike, because bottles vary. An oversized insulated bottle, a standard bottle and a cut-down scoop all want different tension, and one cage that adapts beats three that do not.
The price is the whole objection. Seventy dollars buys seven of the ROCKBROS cages, and the functional difference for a rider who replaces a cracked cage every couple of seasons is not seven times anything. This makes sense on a bike you intend to keep, and not much sense otherwise.
Owner reports are consistent on quality and consistent on the caveat that it does not solve clearance. A titanium cage is still a top-loading cage, so on a frame where a bag has taken the vertical space this is an expensive way to have the same problem.
